Alex grew up amongst the rolling hills of England’s West Country and in 1999 matriculated at the University of Oxford to study modern history. His cynical atheism began to soften after he joined the Merton College Chapel Choir, and his interest in Christianity was piqued further while studying the lives of early British saints.
Two other students (Ben and David), who arrived at Oxford as mature believers, gave him a copy of John’s Gospel, invited him to a series of talks by Ravi Zacharias, and engaged thoughtfully with his questions. Convinced by the truth of the Resurrection, and helped by the various works of C.S. Lewis, Alex committed his life to Jesus. He became an active member of St. Ebbe’s Anglican Church, joining their children’s ministry team and speaking at annual youth summer camps.
He wrestled with a call to ministry after graduation, but instead did a Masters, taught high school history and worked briefly in publishing. Ministry called once more and he joined an InterVarsity mission team in Milan where he met Jane, who hails from Minnesota and Kansas City. Two years later they were married, and Alex accepted a position with UCCF (InterVarsity UK) in Exeter, England. He was then invited to move back to Oxford and spent three years training apologist-evangelists across the country.
In 2012 Alex, Jane and Lydia (born in 2011) moved to St Louis, Missouri, to study for a Masters of Divinity at Covenant Seminary. In 2014 they were blessed by the birth of John Victor, who was joined by his younger sister Beatrix the next year. After graduating from Covenant in 2015, they moved to Pittsburgh and are thankful to be working with such delightful youth and their families in a wonderful city!
