CAYG is back (whoop!) this Sunday (October 10) but no CAYG the Sunday following (October 17).
So what’s the deal with the wreath / pizza image?
It’s a bit complicated, so I’ll explain in a series of bullet points below.
For those new to CAYG, every year we do a Christmas wreath fundraiser to provide scholarships and subsidies for next year’s summer mission trip / service projects. In 2022 a team are returning to serve in Harrisburg (still some places available!) with YouthWorks.
The fundraiser has always been a great success; people like wreaths on their doors, collecting them from Ascension on the first Sunday in December is very convenient, and the profits we make are very helpful!
While sending the order-form link to family and friends or knocking on neighbors’ doors with order forms may be fun and satisfying in and of itself, we also like competitions and prizes. Let me explain this new competition.
- Both the online order form and the paper forms (which will be available on Sunday October 10) have a space in which whoever is making the order can specify a Youth Name. If I was ordering online, and chose three items, and paid via EasyTithe, and specified ‘Joe Bloggs’ in the box ‘who gets the points’, then Joe Bloggs gets three points in our system. One point per item.
- The Raffle. For every five items ordered in your name, you get a ticket in the raffle, with some great prizes that will be revealed at the Christmas Overnight (scheduled, in hope, for Friday December 17).
- The Team Pizza Party. This is a race. The first team (up to ten people) to collectively gather orders totaling 100 items can order a stack of pizzas from Pizza Pronto (through me) delivered to the address of their choosing at the time of their choosing. My hope and expectation is that one team will have the 100 items ordered before Sunday October 17, so they can have their pizza party on that evening when there is no CAYG.
- How are the teams formed? Two options. First, click this link if you want to join a team. I will be Simon Cowell and put together the One Direction of Christmas Wreath Fundraisers. Second, privately assemble your own team, click this link, tell me that you are team captain and put the names of those on your team (up to nine others) in the form. And don’t forget our volunteer leaders… they may want to be on your team too!
Then the race is on!
You have to deliver paper forms and checks / cash to Ascension’s reception (4729 Ellsworth Ave, PA 15213) in order for them to be valid. You could mail them, but I’m guessing most are close enough to want to deliver them in person. There is someone in reception each week day from 8.30am to 7.30pm.
And even if your team misses out this time, the items ordered in your name go to improve your odds of winning a prize in the Christmas raffle.
But wait, isn’t this way too early to be thinking about Christmas? Maybe, but my daughter’s choir are on it already so there are Christmas songs in our house. And isn’t it nicer to be chatting to neighbors in the warmth of October than in the chill of November??
Finally, do YOU have a prize that could go in our raffle? Or know someone who runs a popular cafe or shop that would like the publicity of giving a gift card or popular item??
