- Hello! Hope you are well. Things are changing! Read the following carefully.
- Last weekend we offered a livestream virtual CAYG experience on Twitch followed by Life Groups in google hangouts. I was really pleased with the feedback, but we want to improve things further so this Sunday we are:
- Live-streaming a 30-minute Virtual CAYG on YouTube from this link. I think it would be helpful if you SUBSCRIBED to the CAYG youtube page.
- There will be 10 minutes of informal chat and some live music leading up to our official 7pm start.
- PLUS at 6.55pm myself and the two other co-hosts (while observing social distancing protocols) will take on a SILLY CHALLENGE and you can vote the winner in the chat stream.
- We invite YOU to suggest what those challenges might be. Email or text me. Apparently there are things called TikTok dance challenges. I look forward to being enlightened.
- And just before we finish at 7:30pm we will attempt a SECOND SILLY CHALLENGE.
- Expect a guest call-in or two from some beloved voices. As well as some familiar sounds and moments from a normal CAYG night. Including a hot shot by me if 50 are viewing, and an extra one for every 10 on top of that.
- WAIT? SO NOTHING ON FRIDAY NIGHT?!!!
- All of us at Church of the Ascension are seeking to redesign ministry in this season so it is both helpful and sustainable. Thus we have made and posted lots of videos online.
- Church staff are also minimizing time in shared spaces. Why? If I or another CAYG leader is tested positive for COVID-19, then all those CAYG leaders who have shared space will necessarily go into 14-day self-isolation. Game over for regular virtual CAYG.
- So we are first halving the chance of that by doing one livestream rather than two over the weekend (just the Sunday night, 7-7:30pm). I imagine folks sitting down after dinner, ice-cream bowls in hand, clicking on the youtube link…
- Second, we have created two separate three-person teams, one led by me and the other led by Leah, which will present every other weekend. This two-team, one-live-stream design should, we pray, mean we keep going for the foreseeable future!
- AND THEN BOTH MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LIFE GROUPS FOLLOW AT 7.30PM?
- Yup. Unless you want to organize amongst yourselves for a better time. Make the most of your 40 minutes on free zoom!
- Why zoom and not google hangouts?
- My poor eyes have spent far too much time on both of these for last two weeks, but I have found zoom to be the better option. And Kelsey has produced a remarkable step-by-step guide to getting your zoom account set up here.
- Also, I am wrapping up the TEN series this Sunday so that we can begin a brand new series tailored to our new ‘shelter at home’ reality.
